What We Do
Doberman Pictures is an artist-run animation studio in Vancouver, BC specializing in pre-production for broadcast and streaming.
Pre-Production
We focus our artistic efforts on Design, Storyboards and Edit and have a proven track record of delivering the highest quality of work on time and on budget. By sticking to pre-production, we’re able to keep our team compact and our culture buoyant.
Partner Studios
We love creating lasting, repeatable relationships with trusted partner studios. We keep Animation and LRC directors in house in Vancouver who work closely with partner studios who execute asset and shot production in both CG and 2D.
Post-Production
Coming 360°, Doberman brings all the pieces back together in Vancouver for Post Production; editing final picture, working with composers and sound designers, mixing the episodes and delivering broadcast ready final formatted masters. Doberman Pictures has managed productions from pre-production through to final delivery on 6 of the 8 projects we’ve worked on to date.
Our Studio
The right size
We keep our teams small to ensure we all have a chance to know each other. Whether it’s team outings, themed parties, or simply crossing paths in the office, we take building genuine connections as seriously as we take animation.
Speak your Mind
With weekly studio-wide scrums, every member of the team can feel safe and supported in speaking up and having their say. Doberman is the sum of its parts and we’re strongest when we bring our whole selves to the table.
Studio benefits
Of course, we offer extended medical and dental. But we also work best when we have the right tools and resources. Need a better chair or headphones? Found a cool course that piques your interest? Talk to management, and we’ll do what we can to cover the costs.
Dog friendly
It’s kind of in the name. As long as your pooch is well behaved and can get along with other dogs and the mail delivery folks, we’re good.
Stories from the inside
How does Doberman compare to other studios you’ve worked for?
Doberman’s different because we’re not numbers – we’re not treated like we’re part of a system or like robots. I like the emotional connection. I can chat with my teammates freely. Doberman keeps things light with trivia sessions and google hangouts with break-out groups. I feel motivated to go out of my way to hangout with the people at Doberman. There’s no egos here.

How does Doberman compare to other studios you’ve worked for?
The studio leadership is passionately involved in the projects, but remain open to listening to new ideas, regularly fielding questions and suggestions from the team. The trust from them afforded me the opportunities to take on new responsibilities, challenge myself and expand my skillset.

What is it like working at Doberman?
I’ve had the privilege of being part of the Doberpack since the start. Doberman has helped me grow by giving me the opportunity to try out different roles and departments. I’m excited for each project, knowing that I’ll be challenged and supported … And that I get to work with a great group of truly talented people!

What is it like working at Doberman?
Doberman doesn’t just feel like any old studio; it’s a tightly-knit team that’s genuinely committed to helping each other grow to meet their fullest potential. It’s the sort of environment where you can bug anyone for critique and they’ll be happy to help you along, and I myself have received nothing but positivity, encouragement, and support all the while being able to challenge myself on the job almost daily.

What is it like working at Doberman?
Doberman truly is a studio full of creative comrades. Every day I look forward to working with extremely talented artists and directors that love the creative process as much as I do. The team really does strive to lift each other to the next level as we create projects that we are extremely proud of. The Doberman team is the ‘A-team!’

What is it like working at Doberman?
Doberman is one of those rare places where they see your potential before you do, and help you grow into your best self. Doberman prioritizes people and has built such a strong and supportive community of artists creating spectacular work. It’s no surprise that we all want to go above and beyond and achieve even higher quality of animation when we work at such an amazing studio.

How does Doberman compare to other studios you’ve worked for?
From day one Doberman’s warm welcome and feeling of family was in full force. Well over a year later and with so much growth within the size of the studio I still feel like I did on day one! Getting to work on beautiful, smart, progressive shows is motivating… but I find the day to day interactions with my talented coworkers to be the most valuable. Also the studio is named after a type of dog, need I say more?!

Animation Director
What is it like working at Doberman?
Doberman is very much team-oriented; collaborative, supportive, and fun! From the moment I joined the team I felt welcomed, included and valued – and this held steady along the way. And I always felt connected, even while working remotely.
Gina S
Production Coordinator
Why did you choose to work at Doberman?
The philosophy of the studio really resonated with me. The pay was more than fair and the work load was reasonable. Working at Doberman is not like work at all. Every day, signing in and interacting with the wonderful staff is such a joy! A real close-knit team vibe permeates the studio that makes you feel like you’re really a part of something special. The projects are fun and imaginative!

How does Doberman compare to other studios you’ve worked for?
One of the biggest advantages is that Craig and Dallas are animation professionals themselves and they LOVE animation, so there is a deeper understanding of what their employees do. Most big companies have people at the top that have zero, hands-on experience.
